Material Testing

Steel

Using an advanced computer controlled 120-ton capacity Universal Testing Machine (UTM), test results are immediately available on the day of testing with real-time graphical output (i.e, load-deformation graphs, yield and tensile strengths, stress-strain curves, load rate, etc.). Steel products of different types and shapes (e.g. plates, rolled sections, deformed bars, light gauge sections, pre-stressing strands, and alloys) are tested with accurate and swift results.

Concrete

Using a 150-ton compression machine, compressive strength are determined for concrete cylinders, concrete core specimen, pavement blocks, mortar cubes and concrete hollow blocks. Flexural strength of concrete beams are also tested using the UTM or the compression machine.

2” to 6” coring of slabs and pavement are conducted for depth determination as well as for compressive strength capacity.

The Schmidt hammer rebound test is conducted for uniformity and continuity.

Soils

Engineering properties of soils are measured on-site and within the laboratory. The measurements are made according to ASTM standards and other codes applicable to the locality. The following are the list of testing services:

*Laboratory Test for Soils and Aggregates:

Moisture content, Grain Size Analysis, Atterberg’s Limits, Specific Gravity, Unit weight, Classification, Absorption, Los Angeles Abrasion, Wash Loss, Soundness, Clay Lumps, Relative Density, Organic Impurities, Standard Compaction, Modified Compaction, CBR, Consolidation, Permeability, PH value, Unconfined Compression, Tri-axial (UU, CU,CD test), Direct Shear Test

* Field Test

Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Field Vane Test, Field Density Test (FDT), Plate Load Test, Rock Core Logging,
Field Permeability, Test Pit, Disturbed and Undisturbed Sampling, Field CBR

Subsurface Soil Investigation

Prior to the design of structures, port facilities, real estate development, infrastructure, and buildings, geotechnical investigation is an indispensable engineering process for a safe, economical, and effective structure.

In conjunction with its efficient material testing laboratory procedures and equipment, QSTI implements the different modes of subsurface soil investigation according to the site conditions and requirement. Drilling and sampling equipments employ rotary drilling rigs with the appropriate rods, bits, and flight augers as required.

*Offshore Soil Boring:

Offshore boring are necessary for the design of ports, jetties, wharfs, bridges and other off-shore facilities. Drilling and field testing is done on board a 20-ton floating pontoon efficiently assembled on site.

* Land-based Soil boring:

Buildings, towers, stadiums, dams, real estate development, road alignments, slopes,  and other land- based structures and/or ground modification requires a reliable soil investigation procedure. These soil investigation may be conducted in vertical, inclined or even horizontal direction based on the specification.

The subsurface soil investigation shall ultimately furnish valuable information for the design, modification and evaluation of the site upon which a structure is to be constructed. Thus, the final output of the soil investigation shall be composed of information such as engineering properties of soil, subsurface geologic profile, ground water table location, site seismicity, recommended soil bearing capacities, pile capacities (driven and bored piles), sub-grade modulus, liquefaction potential, settlement and rate of settlement and other construction-related recommendations.

Geo-Environmental Monitoring

As part of the social responsibility, companies are more concern of the effects of development anywhere in the world. Monitoring via site sampling and installation of vertical pipes for ground seepage and efflux monitoring has become a standard. QSTI involves itself in this category by serving various industrial petroleum establishments.

Foundation Engineering Solutions

Rehabilitation, modification, improvement of foundations are common in the construction industry. The challenge is to determine and provide the most economical, appropriate yet safe and effective foundation solutions. QSTI strives to design and provide applicable foundation solutions, such as compaction grouting, chemical grouting, permeation grouting, slab jacking, mud-jacking or a combination of solutions appropriate for the requirement.
